Ever wanted a full, 1080p camcorder that looked just like the Super-8 your dad used to shoot sun-soaked home movies with back in the 1970s? Well, you’re in luck, because Sanyo seems to be sharing your nostalgic vibes this year, particularly in the case of the Xacti DMX-HD1000, the world’s tiniest, full-HD video camera. We got our chance to manhandle this minuscule (yet powerful) camcorder at IFA today and honestly, it’s like holding a gun… a memory gun. Deep, right? Take a look at the totally ill photo gallery and let us know your thoughts on the matter.

When we were little, we hated going to bed more than anything.
Sweet slumber is a much more appreciated commodity nowadays, but we still find ourselves wishing there were more hours in each day. If only we could race across the skies in a private 767, outrunning the sunset and never seeing darkness.
Well, we’ve found the next best thing.
Eternal Sunset is a website that tracks 250 webcams across 49 countries. At any given time, the sun’s setting somewhere, and Eternal Sunset will show it to you.
It won’t add hours to your day (quite the contrary) but if you’ve always dreamed of seeing the perfect sunset in Napoli, Egypt, or from atop Mount Fuji, park yourself in front of your ‘puter and watch that fiery globe fall. Over and over again.
Eternal Sunset
p.s. If it’s as beautiful in your neck of the woods as it is here, do yourself a favor and go out and shoot this weekend. Here’s a list of photo projects to get you going!
p.p.s.Amit’s in the midst of a move. Apologies in advance if it take a bit longer than normal to get back to you!

Sure, smile-detection might smell of gimmickry, but we like Sony’s new touchscreen T200 and T70 cameras all the same. Normally we’d say bigger is better for LCDs, but the T200 looks like someone did a shoddy job of scaling the T70’s screen up to size — same amount of pixels, now with more blur.

There were really too many of these new Coolpix cameras on display at Nikon’s booth to give any of them a fair shake, but that didn’t stop us from giving the Coolpix S51c that very special look we reserve specifically for WiFi-enabled cameras.

Would we ever in a million years know what to do with this much photo-power at our finger tips? Not a chance, but it’s nice to dream, and the D3 is going to make the dreams of very many photo nerds come true this year. Nikon fanboy or Canon faithful, either way this is a beautiful piece of kit.

While we might not spend as much time geeking out over ISOs and shutter speeds as the true photography faithful, even we couldn’t help but shiver at the feel of the “click” in Nikon’s new D300 DSLR. You have to be pretty serious about your hobby to pick this thing up, or perhaps going pro on a “budget,” but there’s certainly plenty of quality under the hood and photo-geek sexy on the outside to make it worth your hard-earned Euro.

We’re getting reports that Canon’s EOS 40D has hit US retailers. Both Amazon and Ritz camera show the 10.1 megapixel beauty in stock and shipping for $1,348 and $1,300, respectively. So giddy up photogs, you’ve waited long enough.
[Thanks, Tayor and Justin]

Philips certainly is making good use of the spotlight provided over in Berlin, and while we’ve seen quite the array of LCDs emerge from the firm, up next is a trio (plus a limited edition tagalong) of smaller displays aimed at living room tables. The 5.6-inch Digital PhotoFrame touts a panel capable of displaying 140ppi, while the 7- and 10-inch iterations get powered by an integrated rechargeable battery and tout enough internal memory “to store 1,000 digital images.” Furthermore, pictures can be loaded up through your USB-equipped Mac / PC, or you can upload directly from CompactFlash, Memory Stick, MSPro / MSDuo, xD, SD, SDHC, and MMC cards. Lastly, Philips will be offering up a Christmas-themed version of the 10-inch digiframe to grab the eyes of desperate holiday shoppers, but unfortunately, the outfit failed to provide release dates or pricing information for us to mull over.

You asked for it, you got it. Some sweet, sweet pics of the wild new 6 megapixel Casio prototype. You know the one — 60fps video at full resolution or 300fps VGA? Believe it or not, the camera is surprisingly light, will use SDHC storage (which won’t last long at these resolutions), and is expected to ship sometime in 2008. Hey, that’s what they told us. Peep the gallery for all the hotness.

Ok, here we go. Casio has a world’s first prototype shooter at IFA sporting what must be Sony’s 60fps 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensor. Right, sixty 6 megapixel frames per second for what should be a resolution in the ballpark of 2921 x 2184. It’ll even go 300fps if you want to scale things back to VGA mode. The prototype features a 12x optical zoom and 2.8-inch LCD in a beefy piece of kit measuring in at 127.5 x 79.5 x 130.0-mm / 650-grams. What’s also notable is what’s missing from the specs: the storage utilized by this cam. A pretty serious omission when you think about the transfer speeds required to move (and store) that much data.
